Gary Spence
Born April 29th, 1947, in Gettysburg, PA, Gary has played music most of his life. He started in grade school playing various instruments and singing in Sunday choir, early experiences which sparked a  lifelong interest in traditional music. He's taught courses in Appalachian string music at Mars Hill College for 35 years and has many private students.

Gary has performed in major folk festivals throughout the U.S. including Union Grove, The Bascom Lamar Lunsford Festival, the Asheville Mountain Dance and Folk Festival, and Fiddler's Grove to name but a few. In 1996, he received the Bascom Lamar Lunsford Award from Mars Hill College for his "significant contributions to traditional  Appalachian music."

A multi-instrumentalist, Gary focuses his talents on singing baritone and playing guitar for Southwind Quartet.
