Jerry occasionally joins us for a number, and it's always a treat.
Obray was Gary's best friend and mentor. He taught Gary countless mountain ballads and banjo tunes, along with a seemingly endless supply of jokes and stories. Talented, bright and always hospitable, Obray was a true man of the mountains.
She's the band's manager, our sound engineer, and a super mom. We have reason to believe she may also be Snow White.
Stabbed in the heart at the age of 22, Laura's murder actually occurred in May of 1866 and not in 1865 as her headstone states. Many local people believe to this day that Tom Dula was wrongly excecuted for the murder and that he was instead an accomplice after the fact. Anne Foster Melton, Tom's lover and also Laura's cousin, is thought by many to have actually committed the murder. For a more complete history, check out David Holt's excellent Tom Dula page at http://www.davidholt.com/photos/tomdula.html.
Southwind Quartet playing for the Homecoming game at Mars Hill College. This one was a real treat as we got to play with the marching band and the great young Madison County fiddler, Josh Goforth.
An autumn view from the Blue Ridge Parkway. We love our mountain home.
This handsome lad is Gary at age 19, posing with his first banjo.
This is Greg in 1977 in the midst of his wayward rock and roll years.
Thomas Minto was Greg's great-great grandfather, pictured here in 1874. Old Tom played fiddle aboard river boats on the Ohio and Mississippi.

Christmas at the Inn on Montford, which has become a tradition for Southwind....
...in fact, the band's second-ever performance was on the Inn's front porch in December 2001...
...and we've been coming back ever since...
...the warm hospitality, the kind owners, and the friendly guests...
...keep us coming back year after year.
